Concepts
My artworks explore the dynamicity of vibrating existences, sometimes seeing them as a whole, and sometimes focusing on a single element, seeing it as another assemblage. It’s like eating soup: sometimes you take a full spoonful, experiencing everything at once, while other times, you focus on a single ingredient. I investigate the connections between the food in the spoon, the relationship between the spoon and the bowl, and the interplay of all elements within the composition.
I create digital drawings, animations, sounds, immersive installations, and technology-included works to experiment with the differences between each construction of shattered existences. I observe the vibration and the flow of the motions, then visualize the experiments. For instance, I use digital animations to demonstrate the changing moments in forms, where instability and stillness are involved. While the intangible might be repeatedly updated, the tangible might stay the same, or vice versa. Many of my works are interactive, which allows viewers to experience and change the work itself and adds more fluidity and inner components to the work.
The fluidity of things inspires me and pushes me to further experiment with concepts and materials.

About the Artist
Jia Zeng is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of art and technology. Her practice incorporates 3D printing, mixed media, and experimental sound to explore forms of assemblage and the complex relationship between the tangible and the intangible. Through sculptural objects, sonic environments, and hybrid forms, she investigates how elements respond and cooperate with each other. She attended Interlochen Arts Academy for high school, and is now a student of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
